1) Robin Schools (Director of Admissions)
Over the past fourteen years, I’ve worn many hats at St. Luke’s, from receptionist to Events Coordinator to Director of Admissions and everything in between. There are numerous facets of each of these jobs that have simply stuck with me as I’d move on to another position. But I believe that is the nature of small business in general, and schools in particular. No matter how great or small the number of management or administration, there are things that must be done. So you step up, don the hat of the hour, and do your best to make it happen. Thus, I find that I’m having a difficult time bulleting five to seven jobs that I do because singularly no one is representative to the whole, and choosing but a few barely skims the surface. I have chosen, instead, to share with you a mindset rather than a list of responsibilities. These mantras allow me to be successful at doing what I do at St. Luke’s every day:
- I am a cheerleader
- I am the ground troops
- I am the central nervous system
- I am a confidante
- I am an organizer
- I am a leader
Everything I do at St. Luke’s requires at least one of these attributes, from enrolling new students to devising the master schedule matrix, from publishing a weekly newsletter to making tears dissolve into giggles.
No one is at the school for the money. To a man, or woman, each person at St. Luke’s is there because of their love for children and the desire to unleash good, thoughtful, caring young people into the world.
I’m the mother of Rachel, a sophmore at Virginia Tech, and Jonathan, a senior at Eastern View High School. Both Rachel and Robin attended St Luke’s School.
