Our Vision it to be recognized as the leader in world-class education and an inspirational beacon in our community. To enrich students’ lives daily with truth, freedom of expression, and academic excellence in a Christ-centered, all-embracing, safe and caring family environment. Subject: Important Update of the Head of School Seach Committee!
To: Family and friends of St. Luke’s School

Hello Friends!

The work of searching for a permanent Head of School (HOS) has begun in earnest! A Head of School Search Committee convened by Board member Darren Caprarese has been tasked with developing an ideal candidate profile, assessing qualifications of prospective applicants, and interviewing final candidates. The following individuals have agreed to serve on the committee:

Darren Caprarese – Board member and parent

Sylke Heil – Board member and parent of alumni

Nancy Knewstep – faculty and parent of alumni

Lania Mohr – faculty and parent

Betsy Spencer– parent

Carol Kelsey – parent

The HOS Committee held its first meeting last week and is hard at work determining a process that will be exceedingly fair and equitable and ultimately yield the ideal person to lead STL into the future. In the coming weeks and months, the committee will report progress and invite your participation in the search process via email and newsletters. The decision to hire a new Head of School will be made by the Board of Directors as a whole, supported by the advice and counsel of the Search Committee and with active input from all parts of our STL community, including all faculty, staff, parents, and students.

The following estimated timeline provides an indication of the schedule we expect our search process to follow:

December to January — Search Committee develops qualifications of ideal candidate

January to March — Recruit candidates

April — Evaluate candidates through semifinalist and finalist stages

Prior to summer break — Head of School selection finalized and announced

As we move into the subsequent phase of the search for STL’s next Head of School, we hope you share the Committee’s sense of optimism and confidence as our school is thriving by every measure. It is crucial for the entire STL community of parents, friends, faculty and staff to be on the look out for potential qualified candidates. Networking is an extremely powerful tool for identifying candidates. Please spend some time reflecting on your network and forward resumes along to someone on the HOS Committee for consideration. With the help and support of faculty, staff, parents, friends, students and a deeply invested Board of Directors, we will lead STL to even higher heights. We hope and expect to have identified our new Head of School before the summer break.

If you have any input for members of the Search Committee at any time, please feel free to contact Darren Caprarese at dcaprarese@stlukes-school.com. We look forward to keeping you well informed and involved as we go through the various stages of our search.

Most sincerely,

The STL Head of School Search Committee

STL: 9th grade tea

On Friday Sept 23, 2011, Ms. Forte and her mother treated the 9th grade students at St Luke’s School to a fun and enlightening tea experience in Culpeper. More than words were imparted over this cup of tea. As our students enjoyed a spot of tea, they learned about life and schooling back when Ms. Forte’s mother attended. Savannah, Samantha & Carter learned life is always evolving.

On August 30, 2011, St Luke’s School in Culpeper Virginia officially opened its new school year with a message about LOVE by Ed Lyons, a former math teacher at St Luke’s School.

He concluded by saying, “Love one another! That should be your motto for the whole school year.”

This is a picture Vickie took and gave to me one Christmas that I now have hanging on my wall in my office at home knowing how important it was for me to know and understand how the impact my thinking was to changing the world. We all make ripples – the key is are they ripples of success that lead people towards their destiny or not. Are they ripples that empower us and others or disempower us and others?

To me, this fits or goes well with Operation Compassion – as the faculty, staff, students and families of St. Lukes school seeks to change a world by making positive ripples in their own lives by changing (renewing) their own minds.

Here’s a poem I found and put in my book:

How to Change the World

Written on a tomb in Westminster Abbey

When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world.

As I grew older and wiser I discovered the world would not change

So I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country,

But it too seemed unmovable.

As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt,

I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me,

But alas, they would have none of it.

And now I realize as I lie on my death bed, if I had only changed myself first,

Then by example I might have changed my family,

From their inspiration and encouragement I would have been able to better my country,

And who knows, I might have even changed the world.
